Decriminalization of Marijuana in California
Recent laws passed in 2016 and which went into effect in January of 2018 allow adults over the age of 21 to possess certain amounts of marijuana (up to 28.5 grams), as well as purchase approved amounts of marijuana in certain approved locations. However, the law did not make marijuana possession legal for everyone; anyone under the age of 21 who is found to be in possession of marijuana may face penalties. Additionally, adults over the age of 21 who are alleged to have more than the legal amount of 28.5 grams of marijuana can face jail time and/or fees.
At the Law Office of John F. Christl, we help individuals who are facing marijuana-related charges, as well as all types of drug crimes. Our Newport Beach drug crimes attorney is a former prosecutor with an in-depth understanding of criminal law and the criminal justice system.
